This ruby was  owned by Violet June Daly, who once served as the Vice-Chairman of World Airways.  Born in Dresden Tennessee, attending high school in Chicago.  She then met her husband Edward J. Daly in 1949 while working in Miami.  Mrs. Daly was involved in a number of philanthropic activities which included programs for children, and the elderly as well as medical research.  With the help of the airline, the Dalys used their philanthropy to bring aid to countries with food and medical assistance to people in need. The Dalys were very close friends with many heads of state and political figures including President John Kennedy, Senator Robert Kennedy, President Lyndon and Lady Bird Johnson, King Hussein and Queen Noor of Jordan, both Governors Brown of California, Fess Parker and many celebrities.  Mrs. Daly had a passion for fine quality jewelry and we are privileged and pleased to bring collectors a rare opportunity from this important collection. Red Corundum is known as ruby.  It's color, caused by traces of chromium, ranges from rose through carmine to a dark, slightly purpleish red, referred to as "pigeons blood" red.
